Goodwill Hunting

Some Goodwill finds turned treasures.
Old clock...unscrewed cover and spray painted pink.
Desk, (love), took off wood top, spray painted pink, added blue knob from cost plus world market.
Vintage tins, painted and distressed.
Embroidered children's print...framed.
Oh...and I painted the room (afterwards I thought white would probably be better) but i'm gonna let it ride.

Playing catch up...ketch up (is that even a word?)

I have been busy pinning and crafting. Not a lot of details here but some pics of things I have made/remade.

"Flipped" over this♥

I found these vintage (old) lift-top school desks on craigslist.
Only $10 for BOTH!
Helllooo...that. is. a. deal.
I had big plans to refab 'em.
Decided I had neither time nor energy.
(after i actually started painting one with the intention of doing a black and pink chevron pattern)
So, relisted and sold them for $35.
Could have made more but have a few too many projects in what my husband is now referring to "the man cave".
Nice $25 profit.

Party Hat Meets Mini Crown

 Two mini crowns made from traditional kids' party hats.

Start with a party hat.

Cut off top of hat at desired height of crown.

 Hot glue crossover points to secure.

Flip hat over (what once was the top, now forms the bottom) and cut desired design.

Paint and roll in glitter.

I brushed one in paint and spray painted one. Both worked great!

Decorate with fabric flowers, tulle, lace, vintage buttons, feathers, etc.

Attach an elastic or ribbon to tie, and viola!

It really was that easy and fun♥

Office Supplies are Like Bacon.

Why do I keep wanting to buy old office supplies (particulary hole punchers, tape dispensers, staplers,  & clip boards)? I don't know...but it's the same feeling I had as a child and I could never get enough bacon. As an adult when I was finally able to buy and make my own bacon...mmmmm.
I think the office supply thing has something to do with teaching and the incessant questions such as:
"Where's the stapler?"
"Where's the hole puncher?"
"Can I tape this?"
There are NEVER enough supplies to go around. I really don't know why the students ask me where they are because 9 out of 10 times I never know due to someone (myself included) having had wandered off with them. When they are found there are no staples or tape. The hole punchers are jammed and the clipboards which I bought in a large and colorful quantity are in seriously short supply unless I specifically "mention" that I "wonder" where they are. Miraculously they appear throughout the day. I mean they are for the kiddos, so I don't really care, but I like to keep 'em in check.


So...my find at goodwill...

An old school heavy duty tape dispenser.
Which was cool in and of itself.
But really, what doesn't look good in HOT PINK?♥

DRUM ROLL...perfect for Masking Tape! ♥ it!

Anne, the Irish Texan, this is for you♥

This is for Anne.
She is from Ireland but currently lives in Texas.
That should explain the title.
I did not invent this, nor is this probably the best way to do it.
But alas here it is...A cone wreath.



Supplies: Vintage sheet music, glue sticks and glue gun, scissors, string.
*Chocolate and Patience Optional

 



Due to the delicacy of paper (it's old) & and size,

 I folded each sheet in half leaving about an inch at the top.

Start at one side and roll into cone...

Honestly you will just need to practice this 'till you get the feel of it.

Adhere length of cone down with glue, leaving paper sticking out as shown above.

Use patience now...begin taking pictures of each button shown to you as demanded by 3 year old.

Paper sticking out will help stack cones together. I would NOT glue these together yet.

Continue making cones.

Take an amazing picture of your papers.

(ignore the glue gun cord at the bottom, you can always edit that!)

Place in wreath shape only to realize it's WAY bigger then intended and will never fit in shipping box.

Make note to get new box.

USE PATIENCE AGAIN

Run into room and find 3 year old in closet.

 Laundry basket flipped over, she's perched on shelf, cutest shoes I own in her grasp.

In fact probably the only cute thing I own from the looks of the closet.

Ask child to wait while you get your camera.

Take photo, THEN give speech about danger of climbing shelves to get "high heels"...then ponder the irony

of the situation. ("High" heels, top shelf of closet...)

 Try to get back to work and have at least one major HOT GLUE FAIL!

Remember...Nobody cares what the back looks like!

Ok...I kinda care. 

Cut large cardboard circle and glue cones down.

Paint black so it looks better.

Punch 2 (or 5) holes and string twine or ribbon to hang. 

Cut large circle. This was about 9in. diameter.

Cut in a spiral. Leave circle in center. (see pic)

Starting at the outside point (not the center) begin rolling up towards the center.

Not too loose, you can loosen later.

Loosen roll and position to the size you like on the center circle base.

I scrunched the middle into a lump.

Lift flower and apply hot glue beneath.

Scrunch with your hands for desired effect.

I used an ink pad to color the edges a little as well.

Glue flower to center.

 

 

 VIOLA



 ...and that oughta do it.

Found...a treasure.

This vintage childrens embroidery was purchased at a thrift store for 75 cents! Needs some cleaning and a new frame...but I  love it.
